Liposuction is a procedure that enhances body contours in areas that are resistant to exercise.
This procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 1-3 hours to complete, depending on the areas being treated. Small incisions are made in the targeted areas, allowing a thin tube (cannula) to be inserted beneath the skin. This cannula breaks up the fat and suctions it out.
While the results of liposuction are typically long-lasting, they can be influenced by factors such as weight gain, aging, pregnancy, and lifestyle choices. The maximum results are typically noticeable within 6 months to a year following the surgery.
Please NOTE: Liposuction should not be considered as a weight loss solution. Nor is everyone a suitable candidate for liposuction. Ideally, individuals should be within 10 lbs of their desired weight before considering this procedure. Post-surgery, a garment is to be worn for about 3-4 weeks to help decrease swelling and improve overall contour. You can typically return to work 1 week after a liposuction procedure. If you have a strenuous job, you will need to be on light duty for 2-4 weeks.
